HI Everyone!

I thought I would share with you my press release on the event!
Brown School Students To Fill The Halls With Music and Art While Raising Money for the Relief Effort in HaitiSchool Which Places Emphasis On The Arts Views This As An Opportunity For Students To Display Their Talents and Also Support A World Crisis
(Schenectady, NY) – Students will be filling the halls of Brown School with their creativity as they display their artwork and play music all while raising money for the relief effort in Haiti. It’s part of the Fine Arts Festival which will be held on March 4 at 6:00pm at Brown School located at 150 Corlaer Avenue in Schenectady.
This marks the eighth annual fine arts festival for the school that places an emphasis on a top notch arts and music education program. Student artwork will be displayed for visitors to view. As this is taking place, student musicians will transform into “street musicians” performing in small ensembles throughout the school.
Head of School Patti Vitale says, “ This event showcases many of the values we embrace at Brown School. Our visual arts and music program provides students with an enriched educational experience they simply cannot experience elsewhere. We also place great importance on reaching beyond the borders of Brown School to aid causes such as the relief effort in Haiti. These are important lessons to teach beginning at an early age.”
The “street musicians” are students in grades 4th-8th who independently choose, prepare and then perform musical selections representing their own interests and accomplishments. According to Music Instructor Jonina Wilkins, “ This is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain solo and small group performance experience as well as take ownership of their musicianship and build confidence in their skills.”
The event is meant to celebrate the creativity and self-expression of all students through the visual arts. Vitale says, “ We aren’t teaching our students simply how to create, but to love to create.”
The funds raised for the Haiti relief effort will be donated to the Red Cross who is heading up the worldwide initiative.
About Brown:Helen “Nellie” Brown founded Brown School in 1893 as an alternative to public schools. She envisioned a school where an individualized approach to learning would foster self-confidence, intellectual curiosity, and a life-long love of learning.
The school’s mission is to inspire each student to love learning while striving for academic excellence. Brown School’s teachers work to identify and develop the strengths of individual students, thereby stimulating discovery, imagination, and critical thinking. Small classes, a dedicated staff, and an innovative curriculum, combine to motivate children to reach their potential both academically and socially.
Brown School, a non-sectarian independent school in Schenectady, New York, has an absolute charter by the New York State Board of Regents and is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of Independent Schools. School policy is determined by the Board of Trustees and implemented by the Head of School and Brown School staff members.
