Good Morning Everyone!
Hope your Monday is off to a great start. I attend an excellent event in Troy last night with Karli called Cuisine Magic. We got to sample foods from area restaurants. Very fun!!!
Now back to our topic at hand.. fitness. Karli Taylor is coming up with the "Resolution Solution" -- tips to help you stick with your fitness goals.
Karli and her client Janice were featured Saturday on the front of the Times Union health section! If you get a chance take a look!!!

Funny that you mentioned that article, Susan. For those of you who don't know what the Resolution Solution is, I'll give you a brief run-down before I go into what I really want to talk about today.
This year, Best Fitness has decided to help 6 people from the Capital Region keep their New Year's resolution to lose a significant amount of weight. We are taking the idea of the hit tv show "The Biggest Loser" and applying it to real life. Though I do love the show, it gives people an unrealistic idea of how quickly we can lose weight. You have to remember, that the contestants on that show have no committments- no job, no family chores etc. They spend up to 6 hours a day working out and have all of their meals prepared for them by a registered dietician. Sure, they have planned "temptation challenges", but in our real lives, we have DAILY temptations! Our Resolution Solution contestants will be working with our trainers for 6 months to create a lifestyle change and lose weight while working and living at home- NOT AN EASY TASK!
So why am I talking about this? The article spawned a group discussion in the gym this morning about "dieting" vs thinking differently about food. There are many differences between the 2, but there is one huge difference- the first one DOES NOT WORK. A diet is a temporary solution to a permanent problem. A diet has an endpoint right? So what happens after your 6 week meltdown diet or your 4 week cleanse?
A client of mine told me about a book that I am planning on going out to buy today- it's called Food Rules. Has anyone read it? I guess it explains 30 or so common sense rules to live by when it comes to what to eat. She told me two of them, and that was enough to tell me that I'm going to like the book. Here they are:
* If it comes through a window, it is not food !
* If it comes from a plant, eat it. If it is made in a plant- do not!So I'll read it, and if anyone else is interested in doing so we can have a discussion in a week or so- sound good? I hear it's a quick read...
Off to Barnes and Noble.
