  • Good Morning Everyone...

Before I get to anything else this morning.... Happy Birthday Karli!!!!! Karli is one of the most special people I know... She started out as my trainer and running partner, but over a short amount of time we became the closest of friends. She is such a beautiful person and friend!

AND.. one more thing about Karli. Karli was promoted and is now the head of all the trainers at ALL the Best Fitness facilities! There are several in New York and New England.

Today... I am actually in Maine, assisting MARKeting Mark with a media training seminar. It's a long story, but we were so supposed to leave yesterday morning, but then couldn't leave for the 5 hour journey till last night. But.. yay.. we're here and looking forward to the day, which will hopefully include a little seafood!

So.. now...onto our feature presentation -- "If Not Now, Then When?"...fitness and lifestyle advice from our birthday girl -- Karli Taylor..... :) :) :)

Sunday Nights on Sun, Oct 04 at on SW

  • By Susan Bardack - Sun, Oct 04 - 0 replies

  • Good Evening...

Now that Susan's World is available as a public group site for everyone in the world to see... I am trying my extra best to post each and every day!

Susan's World is actually my blog and it's sort of a different way to use iZoca. Some folks have asked if they could set up groups like this for their own blogs.... and I always say... go for it! That's one of the cool things about iZoca.. it's pretty open to creativity!

So, it's Sunday night... Do you do anything special on Sunday night to prepare for the week ahead?

I actually spend time making a big list for work of all the things I would like to accomplish... It makes me feel better to do this...

I also take care of any paperwork that I need to fill out or take care of...

One of the fun things I do is pick out accessories I plan to wear during the week. As I've mentioned before fashion is one of those fun frivolous things that I love!

I try to spend a little time on Sunday evenings having quiet time where I relax and meditate. The funny thing about me is that I am incredibly social during the day... But I always need time to myself to decompress and chill... I really cherish quiet time... where i don't have to talk or think!

    So what do you do?

Olympics on Fri, Oct 02 at on SW

  • By Susan Bardack - Fri, Oct 02 - 1 reply

  • Hello Friends!

I hope you all are having the most delightful Friday! Fridays are absolutely my favorite day of the week. I love them. Always have, probably always will...

So, the Olympics is all over the news. Where will they have the 2016 games? How about Albany, NY? Kidding! However, it was quite amazing when it was announced the 1980 games would be held in Lake Placid. Little old Lake Placid would never be the same again....

Last night I was at a party to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the games held in Placid. It was such an amazing night. Ed and Maureen Lewi (president and vice-president of Ed Lewi Associates) was chosen to handle ALL public relations for the 1980 games. It was unbelievable. They competed against a huge national PR firm to get the contract. They had the WORST interview ever for the job.. THE WORST... And guess what?..Somehow... someway... it just happened. A dream came true. Sometimes, even when the deck is completely stacked against us.... something magical happens... to really give a chance for success. This was the case for Ed and Maureen Lewi and their team.

The man that made the decision to choose Ed and team (over the big name firm) for the job was at the dinner last night. They came so close to not getting the chance... but this man (who did not know them at the time) took a chance of his own and cast his vote in their favor. It was funny, but very emotional when he spoke.

There was also a woman there who turned down a date with a team coach. She said a big "No". Turns out... it was the coach of the US Men's Hockey Team who beat the Russians in one of the most incredible wins in history!!!

News directors and photographers and reporters were also there and shared their very funny stories. Very funny.

My only connection to the 1980 games is that I know Linda Fratianne who was the silver medalist in figure skating. I went out to dinner with her a few years ago.. just Mark, Linda and myself. She is so sweet and nice! If you read about her.. it's pretty well known she was cheated out of the gold medal. She still has trouble with that decision to this day.

I leave you with a video of Linda...

Anyone else have any Olympic stories?? Doesn't have to be the 1980 games... Share if you do!

Biofeedback on Thu, Oct 01 at on SW

  • By Susan Bardack - Thu, Oct 01 - 1 reply

  • Goood Morning!!!

I am enjoying a warm and wonderful pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks! I just love them. You should get one too as a special treat!

In just a bit I am headed outdoors for a grand opening party for an updated Tech Valley High School located in my region. How cool is that? As much as I loved my HS, I think I would have really embraced a school with a focus on tech!

So today... Bethany Gonyea... and biofeedback. She's been on before and was terrific. She's going to write to us about biofeedback today because in a few weeks I am hosting a party at my house with Bethany.

In fact, you are all invited!!! Even if you are outside the area.. feel free to make a day trip out of it and come!

I'll put it on the SW calendar... But it's Oct 13 (Tuesday) from 6:30 to 8:30. Bethany will demonstrate and speak about biofeedback. In the times that I have met with her, I've found it extremely interesting...

    Without further adieu... Bethany.....

What's The Storey? on Wed, Sep 30 at on SW

  • By Susan Bardack - Wed, Sep 30 - 3 replies

  • Good Morning....

First things first. When you get a chance read the discussion written by CEO Jeff on public pages. This is a big step forward to iZoca. Our CTO Scott is very humble, but seriously folks, I don't know if there's anything he can't do when it comes to building an amazing website like ours. He rocks. This new architecture will really help groups who want a public presence.

So "What's The Storey?" marketing tips and advice has been moved to today because of our mystery guest for tomorrow. Hmmmm.....

On occasion MARKeting Mark and I join forces and work together on an event. We actually collaborate all the time by just talking over marketing ideas and approach. Mark and I both have a television news backgrounds. I was on the management side as the assignment coming up and dishing out stories for reporters and Mark was a reporter.

I'll never forget the first time I saw him on-air. I had assigned him to go to a sports bar and do a live shot on something that was happening that I can't quite remember now. I thought because it was his first time live in Albany he would be nervous. But, when Liz Bishop, our anchor tossed to him he was a natural!! I remember thinking -- "This kid (he's 7 years older than I) is good. Real good."

So, one of the things both Mark and I have done and continue to do is broadcast media coaching. Basically, giving people tips and advice on how to do television interviews. Mark is pulling me in for a media training seminar at Hannaford Corp in Maine. During something like this we actually bring in a news photographer to tape the attendees doing interviews and we work with them...

But I thought I would give you a few tips right here on SW in case you are ever in the position to do an on-camera interview.

    1. Three main points --- Really just think of a few main points you would like to get across in an interview. Do not go crazy with tons of facts and figures, just stick to your main points and emphasize them.

    2. Look at the reporter -- If a reporter is doing the interview, look at the reporter, not the camera. It actually looks really funny during a taped interview if you start to look into the camera. Just focus on the person interviewing you.

    3. Help -- I don't know the answer to the question. Okay this is a funny one. My main point here is going to be focus on what you do know. Studies show that viewers don't really listen to the questions reporters ask, they mainly listen to the person being interviewed. Try to bring up a main point if it's appropriate.

    4. Tone -- Consider the tone you want to come across. If it's something light.. try to stay upbeat and positive. If it's very serious, be genuine and treat it as such.

I think this is an interesting topic, so I will try to bring it up again soon!

    Have a great day!
