    Resolution Solution

  • I'm sure you've heard people talking about increasing the amount of fiber that they are eating. I'm sure you know that fiber is good for you, but do you know what it really is, how much you need or why it's so good??

Dietary fiber, also known as roughage or bulk, includes all parts of plant foods that your body can't digest or absorb. Unlike other food components such as fats, proteins or carbohydrates — which your body breaks down and absorbs — fiber isn't digested by your body. Therefore, it passes relatively intact through your stomach, small intestine, colon and out of your body.

It might seem like fiber doesn't do much, but it has several important roles in maintaining health. Dietary fiber — found mainly in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes — is probably best known for its ability to prevent or relieve constipation. But fiber can provide other health benefits as well, such as lowering your risk of diabetes, heart disease, lowering blood sugar and blood cholesterol AND aiding in weight loss!!

So how do you get fiber in your diet? Whole foods rather than fiber supplements are generally better. Fiber supplements — such as Metamucil, Citrucel and FiberCon — don't provide the vitamins, minerals and other beneficial nutrients that high-fiber foods do. High fiber foods include, but are not limited to, whole grains, beans and legumes and green leafy vegetables. By simply having whole oats and blueberries for breakfast, you are 1/3 of the way there for your daily needs!

On average, women should take in about 25-30 grams per day while men need between 30-35. If you are eating a well balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, this number should not require any effort to reach.

SO, are you getting enough of the rough??

Winter!! on Sun, Jan 31 at on SW

  • By Susan Bardack - Sun, Jan 31 - 0 replies

  • Hi Everyone!

I thought today would be a good day for this discussion, because it is mighty chilly out there!

I have the car that gets parked in the garage and today even that was super cold!

But, I actually like winter. Don't get me wrong... I am jealous of people who live in year-round warm climates. However, I like to make the best of the winter!

    What do you like?

** I like my warm gas fireplace on a cold winter's day.

**The idea of any kind of soup.

**My oversized oven-mitt fleece mittens. My friend Karli always laughs at these!

    **Hot mocha drinks.

    Your turn...

Marketing Tips on Thu, Jan 28 at on SW

  • By Susan Bardack - Fri, Jan 29 - 0 replies

  • Hello!!

So, for your marketing advice for the week, we are going to talk about the difference between a media advisory and a press release.

    When do you send what?

**A media advisory is a one-page document that tells the news media you have an event coming up where you would like to obtain coverage. It gives the basics.. What, Where, When and Who. It gives enough information about the event, but does not give too much. You'll give the full story at the event and don't necessarily want to give it all away up front.

**A press release is sent out after the event has just completed. It documents the press event. Even though it is written ahead of time, it is written in the past tense as though the event has already occurred. If something quite a bit different happens at the press conference that is not in your press release, you can add it in right before you send it out. A press release is usually about 2-3 pages and provides the "story" behind your event.

**Forget sending fax copy to newsrooms as these days they much prefer getting an email.

    Hope this helps!

  • Good Morning!

This is not meant as a trick question, because we all know the answer is iZoca!!!! :)

No, seriously, aside from iZoca, what is your favorite social networking website and why?

I'm just interested to hear what you think.

Aside from iZoca, Facebook is my favorite social networking website. I actually like that it combines personal and professional. I use many of my personal connections while conducting business.

Also, the fact that almost everyone and their mother and sister is on the site is very helpful.

    And it's fun!

  • Good Morning!

Ashlyn attended movie night at her school (Brown School) last night and it was the cutest nicest experience. All the little kiddies wore PJ's and got into their sleeping bags and watched Toy Story!

I thought the best way to provide info about the Albany Symphony concert was to simply include a press release...

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Benjamin Zander, Visionary Conductor and Educator, to Guest Conduct Albany Symphony

ALBANY, NY: The Albany Symphony is proud to welcome Benjamin Zander, visionary conductor, educator, and inspirational force, as guest conductor on a Saturday, January 23rd performance at the Palace Theatre. Maestro Zander - who has devoted a large part of his life to studying and interpreting the works of Gustav Mahler - will be conducting Mahler’s monumental Fifth Symphony on January 23rd at the Palace Theatre at 7:30pm, with a special pre-concert talk from the Palace stage at 6:00pm.

The Albany Symphony will be hosting a full week of events open to the public, including an inspiring presentation entitled “The Art of Possibility,” a high-energy event based on his book of the same name that showcases the power of positive leadership. When asked what the goal is for his week with the Albany Symphony, Zander’s reply: “Providing life changing experiences for all.” The fascinating thing is that Benjamin Zander can do this with his words as well as his music-making.

Zander is the Music Director of the Boston Philharmonic and of the world renowned New England Conservatory Youth Orchestra. He is the co-author of the best-selling business motivation book, “The Art of Possibility,” published by Harvard University Business Press, and travels the world leading motivational workshops for major corporations, foundations and governments.

Also featured on the concert will be one of Richard Strauss’ signature pieces, the Emperor Waltz. The concert will be held without an intermission. More information about the performance or its featured artists can be found at the Albany Symphony’s website at www.albanysymphony.com, or by calling (518) 465-4755.
